Early season evaluation

daveshankphoto.com

And just like that, Georgia-Florida Speedweeks is a wrap. We’ve barely had a second to digest what we learned during what has become a grueling month-long enterprise for many drivers and we’ve already got an eye on March.

Here are a few things that jumped out at me during the first few weeks of the season.

We learned that Superman is not invincible and that Rocket is still Longhorn’s kryptonite. We learned that Hudson O’Neal’s immediate job security is pretty solid and that Tim McCreadie MORE

The chassis game

What’s in a name? Well, if the name is Longhorn or Rocket, these days it means a lot. The two are arguably the most in-demand chassis brands used — at the moment at least — in Dirt Late Model racing. Just by sheer numbers alone, no one has put more race cars on the track over the past decade than those two manufacturers.

Personally, I wish we never had to worry about what driver was piloting what chassis brand on any given night. While most guys stick with a certain brand for a decent MORE

Sunny Speedweeks start

Jim DenHamer

Whether or not you count the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series visit to Volusia Speedway Park for the fourth annual Sunshine Nationals as the official beginning of Georgia-Florida Speedweeks matters none. Speedweeks has begun and those two races at Volusia last week (a third race was rained out and won’t be rescheduled) certainly count. They count in the records. The points count. And the paychecks count.

No one got off to a better start than Dresden, Ohio’s Devin Moran, whose two MORE
