Texas Crate tour triples points fund
The Texas-based American Crate Late Model Series has announced a tripling of its points fund for 2025 with $7,500 going to the champion from a $30,000 payout on the tour sanctioned by Crate Racin' USA.
"We're trying to get this deal going," said series promoter Donnie Shipp, who last spring took the organization over from Dustin Daniel, who continues to serve as race director.
Sponsorship from Race On, Smiley's Racing Products, Hoosier Tire Southwest and Jones Supply & Manufacturing boosted the series points fund with Texas General Mechanical sponsoring Rookie of the Year honors paying $500, $300 and $200 to the top three in rookie points. Drivers must compete in 90 percent of the races to receive the full points fund that pays $5,000 to the runner-up, $3,500 to third, $3,000 for fourth and $2,500 for fifth (last year's champion Beau Begnaud received $2,500 from a $10,000 points fund).
The series has a 22-race schedule among 12 tracks in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma with May 9's $2,500-to-win Jerry Shipp Memorial the richest announced event (Sept. 12-13's Doug Ingalls Classic at ArkLaTex Speedway in Vivian, La., is expected to have a significant purse as well). The tour's minimum purse pays $1,500-to-win and $300-to-start.
Besides the points fund and rookie sponsors, other series sponsors include Baker's Ribs, Superior Glass & Mirror, Bulletproof Tees, Deatherage Racing Opticians, Maxima Racing Oils, Champ Pans, Cliff's Goodyear Auto Service, Love Graphics, X-treme Graphics by J-Rod and Saye Plumbing.
