Alabama tech inspector dies at 57

Veteran racetrack technical inspector Johnny Walls of Valley, Ala., instrumental in recent seasons at Penton (Ala.) Raceway and East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, died Monday at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Ga. He was 57.
Walls was a longtime track worker at Penton, EAMS, Senoia (Ga.) Raceway, West Georgia Speedway in Whitesburg and Atlanta Motor Speedway.
In Facebook tributes Penton said he was always calm and well-respected, while East Alabama called him "a big help during the track's transition recently and helped implement many of the improvements we will use going forward."

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Sandy Walls, children Lee Walls and Brooke Walls amnd two grandchildren. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley. The funeral is 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
