Ethan Wilson wins the $10,000 604 Crate portion of the Sunshine Nationals.
What won the race: Marching steadily forward from 10th, Ethan Wilson of Fayetteville, N.C., used a turn-four slider to take control from Sam Seawright on lap 22 and led the remainder of Saturday's 30-lap 604 Crate portion of the sixth annual Sunshine Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park. Wilson paced the final nine circuits for the $10,000 Crate Racin' USA Winter Shootout Series triumph, his first win since a $5,000 Ultimate Southeast Series victory last spring at Lake View Motor Speedway in Nichols, S.C.
Quotable: “I was a little nervous (about the lap-29 caution), but I knew I was really good, too. I just kinda had to hit my marks coming to the green there and just do my job getting through (turns) one and two,” Wilson said. “Man, that’s the most fun I’ve had in a race car in a really long time. That racetrack is pretty bad ass.”
Key notes: Wilson won in the Longhorn Factory Team house car, similar equipment that took John Ruggiero Jr. to victory lane twice late last season. ... Mark Whitener took second on a lap-23 restart and finished 1.158 seconds back. ... Zack Carley recovered from an opening-lap tangle to finish third. ... Third-starting Sam Seawright led laps 9-21 before giving way to Wilson and sliding back to 11th; Seawright spun after the checkers but appeared to avoid contact. ... Jimmy Thomas entered as CRUSA Winter Shootout points leader and finished 17th after taking a provisional. ... Polesitter Kole Platt faded to 18th. ... Second-starting Hayden Cardwell led the opening eight laps before giving way to Seawright and eventually slipping to seventh; Cardwell blew an engine failure for the sixth and final caution on lap 29. ... Dillon Brown ran as high as third before retiring on lap 23. ... The first stoppage necessitated a 10-minute red flag for cleanup after Wyatt Boyd spun from 11th, collecting Carley, Kaede Loudy, Layton Sullivan, Chase Giddens and Austin Yarbrough, among others. ... Boyd slowed for a lap-13 yellow. ... Jamie Maurice was battling for fifth when he slammed the turn-four wall on the second lap. ... The feature lasted 32 minutes, with 19 starters completing 30 laps. ... Bubba Roling scratched after winning the night's 602 Crate feature worth $3,000. ... Skylar Marlar's fast time disallowed after his car was light at the scales; his 16.651-second lap would've lowered the track record.
On the move: Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., started 35th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Wilson’s Factory Longhorn Team Longhorn Chassis is powered by an Earl Ramey Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from University of Northwestern Ohio, Coltman Farms, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Dustpods, VP Racing Fuels, Bilstein Shocks, SRI Performance and Nightowl Design.
Points chase: After Volusia: 1. Sam Seawright (274); 2. Jimmy Thomas (262); 3. Hayden Cardwell (242); 4. Wil Herrington (236); T5. Jake Rainey (212); T5. Koulten Herbert (212).
Current weather: Clear, 48°F
Car count: 75

Consolation race winners: Kaede Loudy, Layton Sullivan, Austin Yarbrough, Mikey Kopka
