Devin Moran celebrates his fifth Lucas Oil victory of 2025.
What won the race: Diving under Daulton Wilson on lap 28 and leading the rest of the way, sixth-starting Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, survived Ricky Thornton Jr.'s last-lap charge to win Friday's 49-lap Melvin L. Joseph Memorial at Georgetown Speedway for a $20,049 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory. Moran captured his series-leading fifth victory and second in a row while taking the checkers 0.077 of a second ahead of the charging Thornton, who entered the event tied with Moran atop series points.
Quotable: "I had hard tires on and there's a big hole getting into (turn) one and you couldn't hardly see it until you're right on it," Moran said. "About five laps after I got the lead, I smoked it and it demolished the whole right front. I don't know what's wrong, but I was just hanging on there at the end without a doubt."
Key notes: Moran, who has 19 career Lucas Oil victories, also won the previous series event at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway. ... The winner struggled with front-end damage late after hitting a turn-one hole. ... Outside front-row starter Brandon Overton led the first 21 laps and Daulton Wilson led laps 22-27. ...Polesitter Ricky Thornton Jr., the winner of the tour's previous two trips to Georgetown who lowered the track record in time trials, slipped to sixth but rallied late and chopped a half-second off Moran's lead on the final lap. ... Eight cautions slowed the action, including when sixth-running Tyler Erb spun on the backstretch after contact with Wilson on a lap-10 restart (Ross Robinson also pitted with a flat left-front tire after clipping the spinning Erb). ... A lap-eight yellow appeared when 10th-running Carson Ferguson lost ignition (he also slowed on the 22nd lap with Spencer Hughes; both had flat tires). ... Hudson O'Neal slowed on lap 10 (Donald McIntosh pitted at the same time with a broken spoiler). ... Fifth-running Jonathan Davenport spun in turn three on the 24th lap (he also slowed on lap 44). ... A lap-27 yellow fell when Ross Robinson went over the turn-two banking. ... The final yellow flag dropped on lap 47 for Cory Lawler. ... Lucas Oil's James Essex announced his 900th career series event at Georgetown. ... The event honored the track founder and kicked off a three-race Mid-Atlantic weekend that continues Saturday at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway and Sunday at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway.
On the move: Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, N.M., started 12th and finished third; Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., started 14th and finished fourth.
