Jason Jameson earned $10,071 on the Northern Allstars tour.
What won the race: Using a momentous lap-35 restart where he powered into the lead from third, Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, Ind., stunned race-long pacesetter Hudson O’Neal, the grandson of the race honoree, to capture the inaugural Marvin O’Neal Memorial at Paragon Speedway on the Northern Allstars Late Model Series. Jameson pocketed $10,071.
Quotable: "I about took O'Neal out ... turn one had a hole in it, so I tried the high-center (in turn two). But I told myself, I just had to go above it just one lap to get a good run on Hudson. It worked out perfect," Jameson said. "Twenty-three years ago I came here with my Indiana street stock. I don't remember that night, but I remember the pits were all grass."
Key notes: The event honored Marvin O’Neal, a Martinsville-area business owner and father of National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer, Don O’Neal; Marvin died on Dec. 26, 2023, at the age of 82. … Hudson O’Neal appeared on his way to winning his grandfather’s memorial race, leading the first 35 laps convincingly before Jameson took the lead. … Josh Rice of Verona, Ky., saw his two-race win-streak end on the tour end. He started fifth and spun out of second on lap 42 when battling O’Neal hard. … Jameson came on strong down the stretch, especially on lap 32 when he executed an aggressive slider on second-running Ryan Gustin, who fell to sixth after contact from the move when Jameson slid across his nose, stunting his momentum. … Seven cautions slowed the 50-lap feature: After debris yellows (Laps 7 and 20), cautions appeared on lap 25 for Cody Bauer slowing out of 19th; lap 30 for a third caution for debris; lap 34 for Josh Holler spinning out of 12th; lap 35 for fourth-running Daulton Wilson; and lap 42 for second-running Josh Rice, who slid off the turn-four banking battling O’Neal for second. … Friday’s event at the quarter-mile oval was initially scheduled for Saturday and moved up a day to avoid inclement weather. ... It was also the Northern Allstars debut and fifth-ever Super Late Model event at Paragon. ... The 50-lap feature lasted 32 minutes with 16 drivers running at the finish.
On the move: Allen Weisser of Peoria, Ill., started 19th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Jameson's Rattliff Racing Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Grant Lee Farms, MGL Auto Sales, JRR Trucking, Keltner Contracting and Auto Outlet.
