Camaron Marlar celebrates his first victory of the season.
What won the race: Third-starting Camaron Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., commanded all 50 laps from start to finish in Saturday's Melvin Corum Memorial at Tazewell Speedway on the Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series, worth $7,500. Marlar topped Mack McCarter by 3.337 seconds for his first win of the 2025 season and first on the first-year Southern Thunder tour.
Quotable: “In the feature (Kaede Loudy) went in there and drove ‘er off in there to the gate out here and I was like ‘shoot I gotta go for it now if it’s gonna happen,’ " Marlar said of his opening lap move for the lead. “It worked and it was obviously the move of the race. And from there, we was pretty good, I felt like. I ain’t really sure how big of a lead I had, but I felt like I had a good one. A good night for us.”
Key notes: Marlar, a six-time winner last year, marks the fifth different winner in six Southern Thunder races. ... Four cautions slowed the main event that lasted 21 minutes, including two in the opening three laps. The other stoppages came on laps nine and 34. ... Marlar led by as much as 4.055 seconds on lap 32, two laps before the final caution. ... Six starters completed 50 laps. ... Dakota Smith started second and faded to fifth before drawing the lap-nine caution. He was credited with 10th. ... Smith won night's second heat race from eighth after several drivers retired or slowed with mechanical issues, including Cory Hedgecock, David Payne, Joe Denby and Josh Henry; Hedgecock, Payne and Henry scratched for the night. ... Jordon Horton scratched after hot laps.
On the move: Hometown racer Odie Overholt started 15th and finished fourth.
