Mike Marlar celebrates his first Outlaws victory in nearly two years.
What won the race: Powering around Bobby Pierce out of turn four as they completed lap 43, third-starting Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., led the rest of Saturday's 50-lap Battle at the Border finale at Sharon Speedway. Marlar pulled away from Pierce in the closing laps, winning by 2.013 seconds for a $15,000 payday and his 18th career World of Outlaws Real American Late Model Series victory.
Quotable: “Yesterday was a little rough, I had to go to the tail of the feature (in a backup car). But today, we got everything with a clean slate,” Marlar said. “This car hadn’t been raced since Brownstown of last season, so (my team) jumped in there and made it happen today. (Car owner) Greg Bruening, man I’m sure he’s at home excited tonight, it’s been kinda tough going this year, but we’re getting ‘er better.”
Key notes: It's Marlar's first WoO victory since his Skyline Motorsports debut on Nov. 2, 2023, at Charlotte's World Finals. ... It's his third overall win of 2025 and first off the regional Ultimate Heart of America Series. ... Marlar mentioned a 'family sweep' in victory lane after his younger brother, Skylar, won in 604 Crates at Kentucky's Lake Cumberland Speedway and his father, David, won there in hobby stocks. ... Gunning for his second Sharon sweep Bobby Pierce led laps 7-42 until his right-rear wheel became packed with dirt after his mud plug failed earlier in the 50-lapper. ... Pierce, who led by as much as two seconds at times, was mired in lapped traffic as his right-rear began to vibrate. ... Dennis Erb Jr. led the opening six laps from the pole before giving way to Pierce on a lap-seven restart, then to Marlar on a lap-17 restart, before settling for third. ... Fourteenth-starting Tim McCreadie worked his way as high as fifth on lap 36 before slipping to seventh. ... Dustin Sorensen hopped Sharon's treacherous cushion early, ripping the right-front nosepiece off. He soldiered to an 11th-place result. ... Nick Hoffman retired from sixth when his right-rear shock assembly loosened, allowing the spring to fall out on a lap-seven restart attempt. He completed 39 laps and was credited with 18th. ... Jared Miley slowed from 14th for the race's fourth and final caution on the 17th lap. He did not continue. ... Brent Larson and Frank Heckenast Jr. tangled, collecting Alex Ferree for the original lap-seven slowdown; Heckenast retired while Ferree completed just a handful more laps. ... Justin Kann slowed from 10th on the ensuing restart attempt. ... John Garvin Jr. started aboard Colton Flinner's No. 48 machine after sustaining heavy damage during the night's second consolation. ... Sharon’s doubleheader was originally slated as a $50,000-to-win finale when the schedule was announced last year. ... The race lasted 38 minutes, with 12 starters completing 50 laps.
On the move: Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, started 17th and finished eighth.
