Dallon Murty takes the checkers for his richest victory.
What won the race: Overtaking race-long leader Bill Leighton on the 26th lap, sixth-starting Dallon Murty of Chelsea, Iowa, led the final five circuits at Huset's Speedway for a $6,053 Malvern Bank West Series victory on the Silver Dollar Nationals undercard. Leighton's bid to regain the lead on the last lap ended with a turn-two spin after contact with Murty, who notched his first series victory and richest Late Model triumph.
Quotable: "As far as I'm concerned, he put a spoiler in my window net and I didn't lift. It sucks, but that's just that's quarter-mile racing for you. Sucks for him," Murty said. "We had a good race going. Hate it for him, but, man, that was awesome. I drove my ass off. I think I hit every wall, every berm, every panel's all crinkled up. But it's awesome."
Key notes: Murty earned a $2,200 bonus from Skyline Materials for winning from sixth, pocketing $8,253 overall. ... Murty, a Late Model rookie, won his first on the Malvern West event but he's won two earlier races on the Malvern East circuit. ... Murty went past Leighton briefly on the 25th lap, but Leighton's crossover move took him back ahead before Murty took control on the 26th circuit. ... On the last lap, Leighton slid under Murty in turn two, and Murty maintained his high line and stayed in the gas with the cars coming together. Murty rolled on while Leighton's car spun. ... Leighton spun his car in front of Murty during the lap-29 yellow in showing his displeasure with the winner, then again briefly blocking Murty's trip to the scales in the infield after the race. ... Polesitter Lance Matthees retired with a flat tire while running sixth after 11 laps. ... The feature concluded at 8:58 p.m. ... The Malvern Bank West Series competed on the undercard of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series portion of the Silver Dollar Nationals with Thursday prelims and Friday's feature.
On the move: Kyle Berck of Marquette, Neb., started ninth and finished third.
