What won the race: Sliding by Kyle Beard to take control on the 16th lap, eighth-starting Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., staved off a late-race surge from Clay Stuckey to win Friday's 40-lap Funkadelic Dirt Track and Honky Tonk Extravaganza at Arrowhead Speedway. Moyer edged Stuckey at the line by 0.200 of a second for the $5,000 payday and his second straight Comp Cams Super Dirt Series victory.
Quotable: “I knew (Clay Stuckey) was good right around that bottom usually and I seen him down there, but I couldn’t go around that bottom. We had a terrible car, the driver earned his money tonight, is all I can say,” Moyer said. “I’ll brag on myself for a minute because that was terrible. We’ll just keep plugging along here and try to keep going, make it to the next one.”
Key notes: Moyer's 16th career Comp Cams victory marks the 856th overall win of his Hall of Fame career. ... It's his second straight series triumph after inheriting last Friday's $5,000 payday at Old No. 1 Speedway in Harrisburg, Ark., when apparent winner Kyle Beard was disqualified in postrace tech. ... Moyer, who has been noncommittal about running the full season schedule, also won June 10's DIRTcar Summer Nationals opener at Brownstown (Ill.) Bullring. ... Ninth-starting Clay Stuckey made a bold fifth-to-second move on the lap-25 restart and tiptoed around the bottom of the track, coming within inches of taking the lead from Moyer in the closing laps. ... Beard, of Trumann, Ark., led laps 3-15 before settling for third. ... Series rookie Eli Ross improved two positions to finish fourth. ... Polesitter Chandler Petty led the opening two laps before fading to 11th. ... B.J. Robinson soldiered to a 12th-place finish aboard his backup car after hitting the wall with his primary machine in time trials. ... The race was slowed by two cautions, the final one coming on lap 25 when Bryan Glaze spun in front of the leaders as he was about to be lapped. Glaze continued to finish 16th. ... The first slowdown came on the 12th lap for Timothy Culp's flat right rear. He rebounded to 10th after changing the tire. ... The 30-lapper lasted 16 minutes, with 18 starters completing the distance. ... Jon Kirby scratched after a wild heat race flip when his right-rear wheel appeared to shear off as he entered turn one. His car flipped several times before landing on its roof; Kirby was OK, but it took track officials several minutes for cleanup.
On the move: Race winner Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., started eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Moyer’s Keith and Elia Lawson-owned Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Karl Chevrolet Auto Group, Mesilla Valley Transportation, West Logging, Stevens Stone Supply, Just 4 Play Fabrication & Speed Shop, Henderson Motorsports, 51Fifty Motorsports, Ultra Force Machines, Wehrs Machine, Hellraizer Jacks, Out-Pace Racing Products, Sunoco Race Fuels, Eibach Springs, Penske Racing Shocks and Midwest Sheet Metal.
Points chase: After Arrowhead: 1. Billy Moyer (1,575); 2. Timothy Culp (1,390); 3. Morgan Bagley (1,385); 4. B.J. Robinson (1,330); 5. Jon Mitchell (1,255).
