Jesse Glenz celebrates the most lucrative victory of his career.
What won the race: Polesitter Jesse Glenz of Chippewa Falls, Wis., led all but six circuits of Saturday's 55-lap Duane Mahder Memorial, coming out on top on a night Cedar Lake Speedway drew 58 entries. Glenz survived a late-race restart to outrun Nick Anvelink by 1.841 seconds for $10,555, the most lucrative victory of his career.
Quotable: “(I) made a little mistake down there, I didn’t know what the best lane was. I figured it might be the bottom, but it was so rough, I thought I’d try to ride the middle a little bit, but I slid out and (A.J. Diemel) got by me. But, luckily the same thing happened to him and I was able to back by him,” Glenz said. “It’s the biggest win of my career, for sure. It means the world to me; it’s gonna help me out in so many ways.”
Key notes: Glenz grabbed his third overall feature victory of the season, his first away from Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wis. ... He captured his first special event since Sept. 2, 2022, in Grand Rapids (Minn.) Speedway's WISSOTA Classic. ... Glenz previously earned $5,000 on three separate occasions, most recently on July 24, 2021, at Cedar Lake. ... Nick Anvelink and Jake Redetzke each improved 17 positions to complete the podium; Anvelink reclaimed the runner-up spot on lap 51 after Redetzke briefly nosed ahead on the lap-50 restart. Their late-race battle allowed Glenz to pull away. ... A.J. Diemel led laps 31-36 until Glenz regained control. Diemel later spun while battling Anvelink for second on lap 50, before recovering to finish sixth. … The event honors Duane Mahder, longtime racer and Red Cedar Speedway legend who died in a work-related accident in November 2016 at the age of 64. ... Duane's son, Chad Mahder finished fifth. ... The race was slowed by two red flags, the first coming for a fuel stop after Skeeter Estey slowed from ninth on lap 28. Estey did not continue and was credited with 18th. ... The second red flag flew after a multicar crash on a lap-50 restart attempt that eliminated Sammy Mars and Cory Crapser. Mitch McGrath raced inside of Crapser and Anvelink, with McGrath forcing Crapser's car to the right, spinning into Mars's path. The incident was pinned on McGrath, who also retired. ... Fourth-running Jake Timm retired as well with an unrelated issue. ... Lance Hofer ran as high as third in the opening laps before slipping to 13th and retiring after Diemel's spin. ... The feature ended shortly after 1:15 a.m. with nine cars running at the finish. ... Jordan Yaggy of Rochester, Minn., won the night's $1,055 'clash' for non-qualifiers.
