Garrett Smith and his winning team in Screven's victory lane.
What won the race: Garrett Smith of Madison, Ga., led all 53 laps of Saturday's 26th annual Rebel Yell to capture his first career Schaeffer's Southern Nationals victory and $10,053. Smith, the 2025 Spring Nationals champ, beat Zack Mitchell by 2.817 seconds for his fourth overall feature win of the season.
Quotable: “We fired off pretty good there, never would’ve thought (the groove) would’ve migrated down to the bottom down here in one and two, that early,” Smith said. “The top, I guess, was getting blasted there at the beginning of the race. We had a good car, it’s been hot. I had probably some of the shittiest luck here recently, but man, finally (a win). I love this place.”
Key notes: Smith added to his March 28 (Buckshot Speedway in Clanton, Ala.) and May 9 (Rockcastle Speedway in Mount Vernon, Ky.) Schaeffer's Spring Nationals victories earlier this year, each worth $7,553. ... He also topped July 3's Southern All Star Series stop at Tennessee's I-75 Raceway, for $5,000. ... Fourth-starting Zack Mitchell slid by Casey Roberts for second on lap 41, but never seriously challenged Smith the final 13 laps. ... Kenny Collins took third from Roberts on lap 44. ... Roberts, last year's Rebel Yell winner, settled for fourth. ... Steven Roberts (no relation) finished fourth after his lap-27 contact sent Wil Herrington spinning in turn three. Herrington retired after 41 laps in 13th. ... Beckham Malone (seventh) and Steve Banal (ninth) improved 11 spots each. ... Kaede Loudy spun on lap 33 to draw the race's fifth and final caution; he ended up 10th. ... Gavin Cowan backed into the turn-two wall after apparent contact with Cory Hedgecock on the fourth lap. Cowan signaled his displeasure with Hedgecock under yellow. Hedgecock retired from 11th after 40 laps. ... Allen Styck slowed and retired on the 18th lap. ... Points leader Jimmy Owens slowed from 12th with a flat right rear on lap 25. He recovered to finish eighth and now holds a slim eight-point advantage over Smith. ... Fifth-running Cody Overton retired under the lap-25 caution. ... The feature lasted 37 minutes with nine starters completing 53 laps. ... Hardy Youmans III was OK after a scary rollover crash in the night's second consolation.
On the move: Kenny Collins of Colbert, Ga., started 14th and finished third.
