What won the race: Second-starting Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, Ind., won Saturday’s $12,022 14th annual Harold Hardgrove Memorial at Lake Cumberland Speedway. Jameson finished 1.822 seconds ahead of Devin Gilpin for his first career Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series victory.
Key notes: Jameson notched his third overall victory this season, adding to Iron-Man Series wins July 3 at Kentucky's Mudlick Valley Raceway ($10,000) and Aug. 15 at Ohio's Moler Raceway Park. ... Runner-up Devin Gilpin took second from Jimmy Owens on the final lap as Owens slowed with a flat tire coming to the checkers. Owens paced the opening 23 circuits. ... Last year's race winner Camaron Marlar saw his night end on lap 30 after contact with Jameson, triggering a multi-car tangle that also collected Justin Rattliff, Zack Dohm, and Haiden Cowan. ... SAS points leader Ronnie Johnson finished 11th. ... Seventh-finishing Skylar Marlar ran as a teammate to Michael Chilton in a Danny Hatcher-owned No. 6m Longhorn. ... Zack Mitchell started last and finished 17th aboard his backup after mechanical woes in prelim action. ... The event honored Harold Hardgrove, a former Kentucky racer and former Lake Cumberland Speedway promoter. Not only reinstating the Lake Cumberland Classic in 1998, Hardgrove introduced the first $10,000-to-win event there in 2002. ... Hardgove’s son, Brandon, currently owns and operates Lake Cumberland Speedway, holding the event annually in memory of his father; Harold died Aug. 28, 2009, at the age of 54. ...
