Cory Hedgecock celebrates his second straight Southern Thunder victory.
What won the race: Sliding by early leader Dale McDowell amid traffic on lap 11, fourth-starting Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., led the rest of Saturday's 50-lap Young Memorial feature at North Georgia Speedway. Hedgecock beat McDowell by 1.476 seconds for the $7,500 payday and his second straight Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series triumph, his first aboard a new Longhorn Chassis.
Quotable: “We had a good car, started fourth and got to second right off the bat. I’m really confused on what this car needs,” Hedgecock said before later adding that the pass for the lead "was probably nicer on my end, not so much on (Dale McDowell’s), I’m hoping he’s not upset with me. He just kinda got himself in a spot, I mean it’s not like he did anything wrong, just lapped cars. Hopefully he’s good with me and everything, but happy to get (the win).”
Key notes: Hedgecock's other Southern Thunder victory was Aug. 16 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. ... It's his eighth overall feature win of the 2025 season. ... Dale McDowell led the opening 10 laps from the pole and slipped as low as third when Dalton Cook overtook him for second on a lap-40 restart; McDowell got back by Cook on a lap-45 restart and beat him by 0.790 of a second for runner-up honors. ... David Payne finished fourth after slipping by Tucker Anderson on the lap-45 restart, with Dillard Hatchett passing Anderson a lap later, relegating Anderson to sixth. ... Second-starting Josh Henry ran as high as third early before slipping to 10th then slowing with a flat left-rear tire on lap 45 for the third and final caution. ... Will Hicks spun in turn two on lap 40 for the second slowdown; he finished 15th, a couple laps down to the leader. ... Tenth-running Vic Hill pulled off with a broken J-bar under the lap-40 yellow. ... The race's first incident came on the second lap and necessitated a 10-minute red flag for cleanup after Taylor Cole spun in turn four, collecting Ruben Mayfield and Brandon Boyd. ... The Young Memorial event, which also honored the late Dewayne Hughes, lasted 34 minutes with 10 starters completing the distance. ... Landon Gentry scratched.
On the move: Tyler Nichols of Ringgold, Ga., started 16th and finished 10th.
