Ryan Montgomery secured his second ULMS victory of the season.
What won the race: Taking advantage of race-long leader Mason Zeigler's flat tire, polesitter Ryan Montgomery of Fairmont, W.Va., survived a two-lap dash to win Sunday's rain-postponed Ron Schmucker Memorial at Latrobe Speedway, earning $6,000. Montgomery held off Logan Zarin on the late-race restart, beating him to the line by 1.671 seconds for his second Jay's Automotive United Late Model Series victory this season and third of his career.
Key notes: Montgomery's other ULMS win came in May 24's Earl Hill Memorial Topless 50 at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, W.Va., worth $5,080. ... It's his fifth overall feature win this season, the most recent Sept. 6 at Hummingbird Speedway in Reynoldsville, Pa. ... ULMS points leader Mason Zeigler led the opening 29 laps from the outside front row until slowing with a flat tire just prior to starting the 30th lap, triggering the race's only caution. He pitted for rubber and finished fourth. ... Fifth-running Dan Angelicchio, winner of Friday's $3,000 Latrobe opener, and Matt Martin both retired during the lap-30 yellow. ... Sixth-starting Logan Zarin inherited second on the lap-30 restart but couldn't keep pace with Montgomery over the final two laps. ... The Ron Schmucker Memorial, rain-postponed from Saturday, lasted 15 minutes with seven starters completing 31 laps. ... Jon Lee scratched after hot laps.
