What won the race: Outside front-row starter Justin Wells of Aurora, Mo., held off reigning series champ and polesitter Kylan Garner on Friday at Monett Motor Speedway for a $3,000 victory, his first on the first-year United Late Model Racing Association. Wells took the checkers 0.682 of a second over Garner, who led only the first of 30 laps with Wells out front the rest of the way.
Key notes: Scott Crigler of Alton, Mo., who won the previous three ULRA events at Monett, ended up fourth behind Ryan Johnson. ... Two cautions slowed the action, the first on the ninth lap for the departure of Joey Vaughn. ... Third-running Chevy Boyer went over the turn-two banking on the 11th lap. ... A dozen starters completed 30 laps. ... The first-year tour was founded by former Midwest LateModel Racing Association champ Jesse Stovall of Billings, Mo., after the MLRA folded at the end of last year. ... ULRA competitors are slated to return to Monett Sept. 26 for the fifth tour event this season at the Grand Ol' Lady.
