What won the race: Leading flag-to-flag from the pole, Ben Watkins of Rock Hill, S.C., collected his 15th career Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series triumph in Saturday's 40-lap Spring Sizzler at County Line Raceway. Watkins took the checkers 0.418 of a second ahead of Ethan Wilson to earn a $5,000 payday in the Clash season opener.
Key notes: Following a victory in the track's modified feature earlier in the night, Ethan Wilson of Fayetteville, N.C., advanced eight positions to score a runner-up finish. ... Defending Carolina Clash champion Adam Yarbrough rounded out the podium finishing third. ... Bobby Liles climbed ten positions to finish fourth. ... Making his series debut, Dalton Peavy of Mooresboro, N.C., finished fifth in his second career Super Late Model start. ... Third-starting Carson Brown trailed Watkins for the opening 31 circuits before retiring with seven laps remaining. ... Fast qualifier Dustin Mitchell of nearby Pine Level, N.C., retired on the second circuit. ... The 40-lapper was slowed by six cautions and lasted 40 minutes, with 17 starters completing the distance. ... Carolina Clash competitors are slated to return to County Line twice more this season with additional $5,000-to-win events scheduled for May 17th and August 2nd.
