HURON, S.D. (May 10) — WISSOTA’s touring series launched the 2013 season with a new title sponsor — and a familiar winner.

Four-time series champion Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., rallied from his eighth starting spot Friday at Dakota State Fair Speedway for a $2,000 victory on the Blaine Brothers Challenge Series in the first race of a season-opening weekend doubleheader. Doar inherited the lead on a lap-14 restart when Jeff Wildung of Nassau, Minn., retired with mechanical problems.

Doar, who leads the 15-year-old series with 28 career victories, took the checkers over polesitter Brad Seng of Grand Forks, N.D., who was looking for his first win on the tour. Marshall Fegers of Mound, Minn., was third followed by Kent Arment of Aberdeen, S.D., who started alongside Doar on the fourth row. Lance Matthees of Winona, Minn., started third and slipped back to finish fifth. Wildung, who took the lead from Seng on the third lap, ended up 21st.

Cautions appeared for John Kaanta's lap-two spin in turn three, when Curt Gelling spun in turn four on the fifth lap and on lap 14 for debris.

Doar, who has spent the last two seasons on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, won for the first time on the series since another Huron victory last July.

Series competitors return to the half-mile oval Saturday night for a $4,000-to-win event.
