Swainsboro postpones Lucas Oil event until June 18

April 4, 2009, 1:14 pm
From series reports

SWAINSBORO, Ga. (April 4) — Heavy rain leading up to the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event at Swainsboro Raceway forced promoter Paul Purvis to postpone Saturday's $10,000-to-win event. The race was rescheduled for June 18.

Heavy rains battered the area for entire week and despite repeated efforts on Friday and Saturday morning to prep the track, the decision was made to postpone the event as the water table under the racetrack produced springs that made the track unraceable.

"We had no other choice than to postpone the event," said series director Ritchie Lewis. "I know that Paul has worked extremely hard in getting the track ready for this weekend and he wanted the best racing conditions possible for the drivers and the fans, but with all the rain they have had this week, the water just kept rising to the top of the racing surface, making the track unraceable."

The postponed cuts short the Lucas Oil weekend in south Georgia. Scott James of Lawrenceburg, Ind., edged Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., to capture Friday's $7,000-to-win feature at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania.

Next up for Lucas Oil competitors is an April 24-25 weekend at Bedford (Pa.) Speedway and Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway.
