Oakes grabs ODLM victory at Brockville
BROCKVILLE, Ontario (Aug. 20) — Two-time series champion Greg Oakes of Franklinville, N.Y., held off Dale Planck of Cortland, N.Y., on Saturday at Brockville Ontario Speedway for his second straight victory on the Ontario Dirt Late Models circuit. Oakes led all 30 laps to earn $2,000 and his fourth career victory on the series.
Oakes started on the pole, but he had to survived several early cautions along with challenges from former track champion Lee Gill, who pulled alongside a few times before spinning in turn three.
Planck moved up from his ninth starting spot and chased Oakes the final 20 spots, but he couldn't find a way past in settling for second. Chris Ross of Charing Cross, Ontario, finished third followed by Carey Terrance and Dale Glassford.
Sunday's Ontario Dirt Late Models circuit event at Cornwall Motor Speedway was rained out.
