Lloyd collects $6,000 in Golden Isles win
BRUNSWICK, Ga. (March 29) — The wait was worth it for Ivedent Lloyd Jr. at Golden Isles Speedway. Rain pushed the March 27-28 Georgia Late Model State Championship back to Sunday, but the Ocala, Fla., driver dominated the 60-lap main event for a $5,000 payday on the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series.
The race, originally scheduled to pay a series-high $10,000 before inclement weather condensed the program, wrapped up Sunday with Lloyd leading every lap from his pole position. Fourth-starting Johnny Collins of Jacksonville, Fla., finished second followed by Dillon Wood of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., and Jeff Henry of Jacksonville, who started sixth but had to rally after being sent to the rear.
Jason Fitzgerald of Jacksonville started outside the front row and ran second much of the race, but he was forced to the pits after contact led to mechanical problems. He returned to finish 12th at the 4/10-mile oval in southeast Georgia.
Notes: The winner drove a Snow Bros. chassis with a Koury powerplant� ... Wayne Shugart of St. Augustine, Fla., was the race's hard charger with a 20th-to-10th run. ... Next up for UDLMCS competitors is an April 17-18 weekend in Alabama with a $2,500-to-win event at Penton Raceway and a $4,000-to-win event at East Alabama Motor Speedway near Phenix City.
