Whitener wins Showdown in the Swamp at Waycross

WAYCROSS, Ga. (Oct. 21-22) — Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., won the 19th annual Showdown in the Swamp on Saturday at Waycross Motor Speedway to move into the points lead on the Hedman Hedders National Late Model Series. | Slideshow
Whitener, who also won last week's series event at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., took over the top spot in the Hedman Hussle by outrunning dash winner Tyler Ivey of Tallahassee, Fla., at the half-mile oval. Russell Brown Jr. of Valdosta, Ga., was third followed by Cale Simons and Brandon Dewitt.
Austin Kirkpatrick of Ocala, leading the playoff-style points heading into the event, finished ninth.
Next up on the series is a Nov. 19 event at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga.
