One of the best things about racing, at least for me anyway, has always been the wonderful people you meet. Whether it’s your friends at the track you go to every week or the folks you meet as you travel around chasing races. Inevitably you will meet some really wonderful people who become life-long friends.

In this space I have talked about some of those people in my own life. Unfortunately, all too often, I have been memorializing them.

The dirt racing world has today lost yet another of its pioneers, its leaders, part of its backbone. A man who’s vision and forethought was years ahead of its time in Dirt Late Model racing. He crafted one of the strongest regional racing tours in history, one that still exists today because of the groundwork that he laid.

Besides my late father, B.J. Parker was undoubtedly the greatest man I ever had the good fortune to know. B.J. was a hardworking and selfless man. I will never forget the MORE

I was fresh off another Super Bowl at the Golden Isles Speedway, which had once again produced two exciting and enjoyable races, and I was feeling pumped up about racing again. I had seen signs of life a few weeks earlier when the rained-out events at south Georgia's Screven and Golden Isles had  drawn strong car counts and good crowds. I had started to believe that 2011 was going to be the rebound year in racing that everyone had been hoping for.
