When I first heard the news that the Dirt Track World Championship is moving back to K-C Raceway this year and that it will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, I’ll admit I was a bit surprised. While the eastern half of the country spent the week thawing out from the winter storm that dropped snow from New England to Alabama, drivers and fans that traveled to Arizona for the Wild West Shootout at USA Raceway in Tucson enjoyed warm weather and some pretty darn good racing.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to go to Arizona, but the DirtonDirt.com guys who were lucky enough to make the trip did a good job of keeping the rest of us updated on all the happenings in the desert.

Ready or not, race season is here. The 2011 season got off to a roaring start over the past weekend with the first two races in the six-race Wild West Shootout at USA Raceway in Tucson, Ariz., and Ice Bowl XX at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala.
