Steve Lonsky, a former WISSOTA Late Model racer who also fielded cars for some of the division’s top drivers, died Monday morning in Rush City, Minn., after a lengthy battle with cancer. The Minneapolis native was 64.

Lonsky, who owned and operated Lonsky Lumber after his father’s death in ’93, competed in the Late Model division and fielded a team with drivers such as Steve Laursen of Cumberland, Wis., Steve Egersdorf of Lake Elmo, Minn., and Joel Cryderman of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Lonsky’s son Dan also drove for the team.

Lonsky also owned Hilman Bar and Grill, Lonsky Trucking and the Town and Country Pole Buildings.

Survivors include his son Dan and two daughters, Charlene Ammend and Janice Lonsky; he also had seven grandchildren.
