Scott Petit, who played a supporting role as a behind-the-scenes fixture at some of dirt racing's biggest events, died Friday morning in Greenville, Ohio. The Illinois native, who worked with several racing organizations as well as Eldora Speedway, was 52.

“Mr. Petit was always willing to lend a hand, and his craftsmanship, kind demeanor, and sense of humor will be sorely missed by those who knew him closely,” Eldora general manager Roger Slack wrote on his personal Facebook page in paying tribute with this obituary.

Petit worked with the All Star Circuit of Champions and Midwest All Star Series sprint tours before becoming a jack-of-all-trades at Volusia Speedway Park's DIRTcar Nationals and a key member of the World Racing Group’s “suitcase promoter” team producing various DIRTcar and World of Outlaws events.

He joined Eldora’s team in 2012 as manager of the Eldora Village campground while also lending his talents to make major events special at the Tony Stewart-owned track in Rossburg, Ohio, including NASCAR’s return to dirt.

“Mr. Petit's affable nature made him a natural host for campgrounds at Eldora, Volusia and Lernerville Speedway as he practiced his ‘camper hospitality’ duties throughout major event weeks,” Slack wrote.
