Snow postpones Tennessee Tipoff
Steady afternoon snow forced the postponement of Saturday's Tennessee Tipoff at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. The $15,000-to-win event, part of the 10-race campaign on Ray Cook's Schaeffer Oil Spring Nationals tour, was rescheduled for Thursday, May 4.
Prior to the snowfall, preliminary action was completed on Friday evening, with Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., and Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., each claiming heat race victories over a 23-car field.
Officials announced plans late this week to shift Saturday's program forward from the evening to the afternoon, but their best efforts were still unable to beat the incoming wintry weather.
