Doctors clear Cosner for competition
Just two days before Bedford (Pa.) Speedway’s richest race of the season, Matt Cosner of Ridgeley, W.Va., has been cleared to compete by doctors, the team announced today. The 26-year-old Cosner had announced last week that a compression fracture in his neck suffered in a May 19 rollover accident required a closer examination, keeping out of action indefinitely.
Results from a Monday MRI test revealed that one fractured vertebra had completely healed and a second fractured vertebra was close behind. Cleared by two doctors to resume normal activity, Cosner plans to continue with therapy until he’s pain free, the team said in a Facebook announcement.
The team, thanking fans for prayers and well-wishes, hasn’t announced its upcoming race schedule, “but don't be surprised if you see the 66c on the track!”
Bedford’s 81st anniversary celebration is set for Friday with the Billy Winn Classic paying $8,100-to-win for the Super Late Model division. If Cosner enters the event, he’d be looking for his track-leading 10th victory since last July 1 at the half-mile fairgrounds oval.
