Work accident injures Virginia driver
Former Fastrak Southeast touring champion Brandon Umberger of Rural Retreat, Va., is expected to undergo surgery Tuesday for serious injuries suffered when he was trampled by a bull Monday in a work-related accident.
In information provided by his wife Crystal on her Facebook page, the 44-year-old Umberger was taken to the Roanoke (Va.) Memorial Hospital trauma center with a broken hip, two broken ribs and blood around his lungs. Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday.
Umberger’s 2017 success includes a May 20 regular-season Crate Late Model victory at his hometown Wythe Raceway. He’s won multiple Crate Late Model special events throughout his racing career, including a $5,500 victory in 2015’s UBB Memorial at Princeton (W.Va.) Speedway and a $4,600 payday at 2013’s Chuck Field Memorial at Modoc (S.C.) Raceway.
