Race car strikes Hattiesburg owner

Donald Parker, the owner of Hattiesburg (Miss.) Speedway, will undergo surgery after suffering extensive injuries when he was accidentally struck by a race car during Friday’s racing program at the southern Mississippi oval.

Parker was struck by a race car alongside the racetrack about 8 p.m. Friday and suffered a broken nose, broken left hand and broken left kneecap, according to the Southern Dirt Track report.

“He is doing well considering the situation,” the track wrote Saturday morning on its Facebook page. “Awaiting the doctors to set a timeline for surgery. The swelling has to go down before that happens. He is in a lot of pain, but doing well. The Parker family appreciates all the prayers and support our racing family have given!”

Hattiesburg continued with the race program with Tootie Arnold of Meadeville, Miss., winning the night’s Crate Late Model feature event.
