Fairbury's June 20 opener set for DoD
Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway has set its coronavirus-delayed season opener for June 20 with a $3,000-to-win FALS Cup event for DIRTcar Late Models with live video streaming at DirtonDirt.com and FloRacing.
Fairbury, which previously planned a June 11 opener that was scratched amid the uncertainty for health guidelines regarding Illinois racetracks, has scheduled open practices for June 13 followed a week later by the opening race program for Late Models, modifieds ($2,000-to-win) and three other divisions.
Track co-owner and promoter Matt Curl has worked closely with the Livingston County Health Department to meet governmental guidelines for the facility to host competitors and spectators.
"I feel like we're going to have a lot of support, so when we do go back racing, we're going to do those things that are right" in following practices to keep folks safe from Covid-19 transmission, Curl said.
Offseason pit renovation that more than tripled platform and seating areas outside turns three and four to more than 1,500 will help the track have plenty of room for social distancing practices with the track's capacity expanded to 7,000, Curl added.
