Fairbury's PDC won't be held in 2020

Zach Yost

Facing coronavirus restrictions that would limit the huge crowd expected, Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway's premier event won't be held in 2020 with the 31st annual Prairie Dirt Classic rescheduled for 2021, track owner Matt Curl announced today.

“It’s disappointing, no doubt. However I am very grateful for the support and guidance the Livingston County Health Department has played in allowing us to go back to racing the past couple of weeks,” said Curl, who anticipated drawing 8,000 fans in paying an event-high $50,000-to-win. “In the end, it’s the right decision for our community and the long-term success and well-being of the Fairbury Speedway. I have no doubt in my mind that the 2021 PDC will be the biggest racing event in the history of FALS.”

The WoO tour, however, will be in action that same July 31-Aug. 1 weekend with Curl announcing plans to promote a $25,000-to-win national tour event at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway. Details will be announced next week.

Fairbury also updated the remainder of its 2020 schedule, doubling the winner's purse of the Sept. 5 MARS Racing Series event for Late Models to $10,000-to-win and condensing the FALS Frenzy into a single-day show on Oct. 10 paying $15,000-to-win for Late Models. The track doesn't expect to require any attendance limitations for remaining races. See fairburyspeedway.com for the updated schedule and details regarding event changes.

For Prairie Dirt Classic ticket-holders, all camping reservations and reserved tickets will transfer to 2021 and reserved ticket vouchers will be mailed this autumn to those who purchased tickets. Fans can request refunds, but those fans won't be allowed to purchase those tickets again as they'll be available for purchase by the general public in 2021. Request a refund by emailing falstickets@gmail.com by Aug. 2.
