Lake Cumberland Speedway race director Allen Tilley was stable at a Lexington, Ky., hospital today after undergoing overnight surgery on his lower extremities following serious leg injuries suffered in a Saturday night accident at the Burnside, Ky., track.

Tilley, the 60-year-old father of Valvoline Iron-Man Racing Series owner Chris Tilley, was struck by a race car, according to observer social media reports at the Burnside, Ky., oval.

According to social media updates from the younger Tilley, his father underwent a two-hour surgery on his legs with the possibility of more surgery later depending on his recovery. Saying he's "far from being out of the woods," Tilley added that doctors confirmed today that his father suffered no back, neck or brain injuries.

"Thank you each and every one of you for your support, prayers and love," Chris Tilley wrote on Facebook after a video call with his father. "It’s truly appreciated more than you’ll ever know. My dad is loved by many and he’ll get through it. Please respect our family's privacy during this time. I’ll update everyone as this process goes."

The elder Tilley is a longtime racing official and serves as race director at Lake Cumberland and Ponderosa Speedway.

Saturday's racing program at Lake Cumberland, which included a $3,000-to-win event for Crate Late Models, was cancelled following the accident.
