Ending their promotership of Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway amid a shift of personal priorities, Dave and Kim Rudisell announced today their plans to step away from the city-owned 3/8-mile oval at the conclusion of the season with Oct. 7’s USAC sprint car fall nationals.

"When we began our journey as promoters of Lawrenceburg Speedway in 2007, we never imagined what a remarkable and amazing adventure this would be,” the Rudisells posted on the track’s Facebook page. “Over the last 17 years of running a racetrack, we have met so many wonderful people and have formed lifelong bonds that we will forever cherish."

Saying the “pace is no longer sustainable” to operate the track, the couple plans to focus on family along with running their advertising agency and boutique. Dave Rudisell will also continue his 35-year ski job at Perfect North Slopes.

The track that has long focused on open-wheel racing underwent a dramatic $4.5 million renovation as the Rudisells took over promotions, growing from a quarter-mile track with a covered wooden grandstands to a state-of-the-art facility at the Dearborn County Fairgrounds with an enlarged, concrete-surrounded 3/8-mile layout.

While the track has hosted a single Super Late Model event annual in recent seasons, it was a one-year host of the Carl Short-promoted Dirt Track World Championship in 2009. During the Rudisell era, the track also hosted the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series in 2007 and 10 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events from 2008-17. Racing first began on the property in 1950.
