Rice Lake honoring Bahr, Gilberts

chrisburback.com

A pair of drivers who included Late Model victories among significant feature victory totals at Rice Lake Speedway are among four 2024 inductees into the Wisconsin track's Hall of Fame.

Tony Bahr (pictured) of Haugen, Wis., and Paul Gilberts of Sand Creek, Wis., will be added to the track's Hall of Fame and receive plaques at June 29 induction ceremonies as part of the night's racing program.

Bahr won 10 Late Model features between 2001-06, part of his 35 total victories at Rice Lake. He also won in the modified, Midwest modified and super stock divisions.

Two of the 18 feature victories for Gilberts came in the Late Model division (he was four modified features and 12 super street features). He's the father-in-law of Hall of Fame driver Jimmy Mars and grandfather of up-and-coming Late Model pilot Sam Mars, both winners in Rice Lake's Late Model division.

The late Dick Hessler will also be inducted along with Tammy Sirek, who enters as a friend of the speedway. Hessler was a multitime winner in the bomber-stocker division in the track's early years, while Sirek was a longtime scorer and former club officer at the track. — Ed Reichert
