Volunteer hosting Bloomquist service
Volunteer Speedway's celebration of life for Hall of Fame driver Scott Bloomquist is scheduled for 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Bulls Gap, Tenn., oval prior to the track's $10,000-to-win Scott Bloomquist Memorial Scorcher.
Among speakers are Bill Reed of Dirt Racing Outreach, Volunteer's Vic Hill, fellow Hall of Fame driver Dale McDowell, racer Reid Millard and Scott Bloomquist's 18-year-old daughter Ariel Bloomquist. Country music artist Ruby Leigh will provide music.
Admission is free with grandstands opening at 11 a.m.; attendees will receive a program. Anyone sending flowers should make sure florists deliver by 10 a.m. to the pit entrants; flowers received by the Millard Family Chapels staff by will be placed by victory lane.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the educational fund of Ariel (4362 Whitecliff St., Morristown TN 37813), a freshman at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee.
A previous celebration of life was held Sept. 7 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, with many of the same participants. Arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Directors of Jefferson City, Mo.
