Electrical fire cancels Stockton event
April 5’s Xtreme Late Model Series event at the Stockton (Calif.) Dirt Track has been cancelled after an electrical fire left the San Joaquin Fairgrounds without power, the series announced. The event won't be rescheduled.
The sixth annual Asparagus Cup, with the Late Model tour and Northern Auto Racing Club sprint cars among divisions, can’t be run because the San Joaquin County Fair Board has shut the track down until the track’s power from Pacific Gas & Electric is operational (it's expected to be ready April 8). The fire destroyed the main transformer and portions of the electrical infrastructure, according to a report from NARC officials.
“Without power, it would be unsafe to run any events in the grandstands,” Daniel Castillo, CEO of the San Joaquin Fair, said in a NARC press release.
The track has been operating on generator power its first two events of 2025, but that's not an option April 5, according to officials.
Stockton’s lone event for the California-based Limited Late Model tour was the second scheduled of 10 series races. The series opens the season Saturday at Marysville Raceway Park.
