Mountain Motor Speedway shuttered

Saying every 2025 event has lost money, Mountain Motor Speedway promoters Darren Slone and Rick Noble today announced the Isom, Ky., track’s closure.
The announcement to turn the lease of the 3/8-mile oval back to owner Kim Maggard comes two days after an American All-Stars Series Crate Late Model event won by Tyler Hoy and two weeks after a $5,000 Ultimate Heart of America Series event for Super Late Models won by Derek Fisher.
Besides the recent special events, the track also opened the seasoned with an American All-Star Series event on April 18 and five weekly events highlighted by Crate Late Model events, four won by Oscar McCown of Martin, Ky. The facilities go-kart track isn’t in condition for competition and drag racing events never drew more than 15 entrants.
Promoters said they primarily opened the track in the spring of 2024 because the nearest eastern Kentucky ovals weren’t operating. With Campton's 191 Speedway, Sitka's 201 Speedway and Whitesburg's Hidden Hollow Speedway operating or reopening in 2025, Mountain Motor’s 13-month reopening fulfilled their goals.
“No one forced us out or shut us down. We knew coming into this, it wouldn’t be long until a couple tracks would fire back up and that’s exactly what we wanted,” the track’s statement said, thanking those who supported their efforts. “At the end of the day, one of the things we wanted has happened. We gave people a place to race until other tracks reopened. We are racers who love the sport. We honestly would much rather focus on our racing program moving forward, and that’s what we plan to do.”
