Webb among Davenport Hall of Famers

Brian Birkhofer, Gary Webb (pictured) and Ronnie Weedon are among eight inductees in the inaugural class of the Davenport (Iowa) Speedway Hall of Fame announced this weekend.
The inductees, with candidates chosen by a committee and a fan vote, will be enshrined during the postseason banquet. Four individuals preceding 1970 and four following 1970 were elected.
Shorty Bennett, a 12-time Late Model winner at Davenport, was part of the older era along with Benny Hofer, a 35-race winner in Class A and B divisions and a four-time track champion. Midget racer Danny Kladis, who from 1946-49 won 33 races, including a streak of 11 in a row in 1947, will also be honored along with Weedon, a 47-time Late Model winner at Davenport and six-time track champ.
Birkhofer, a 20-time feature winner at Davenport mostly in national and touring regional events, leads the newer era. He’s joined by Ray Guss Jr., a 46-time winner at Davenport, 36 times in a Late Model including Deery Brothers Summer Series and NASCAR Busch All-Star Tour competition. Justin Kay, a 59-time winner over an 11-year stretch at Davenport, will also be honored along with Webb, a 17-time feature winner at Davenport with victories over four decades.
