WISSOTA rallies behind injured racer
Fundraisers are being setup to assist the family of Laine Schwehr, the Sanborn, N.D., Late Model racer who suffered serious injuries on Saturday’s opening program of the 54th annual Stock Car Stampede at Jamestown (S.D.). Speedway.
Schwehr was leading his heat race when his No. 56 Late Model had a rollover wreck. He was flown to Sanford Hospital in Fargo, N.D., where initial reports were that he was stable, in good spirits and communicating with family.
While his mother Heather hasn’t reported his injuries, she posted Tuesday on Facebook that “today has started out extra hard, I’m struggling, Laine is struggling. My heart is broken, Laine’s heart is broken,” she wrote. “I can’t begin to imagine the fear and uncertainty inside of him. My own fear and uncertainty for him is off the charts. Please continue to pray for healing, for miracles really.”
The WISSOTA racing community has embraced the family with prayers and support, and mail can reach Schwehr at Sanford Hospital, 5225 23rd Ave. South, Fargo, ND 58104.
A benefit account has been setup for Schwehr at First Community Credit Union; donations can be made at any FCCU location, River Cities Speedway announced.
Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, S.D., plans to have driver pass helmets through the grandstands at Saturday’s event and gather items for a care package to be sent to Schwehr.
