Kelley sets Pike County reopening
First-time dirt track owner Kye Kelley, the popular drag racer and co-star of Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws programming, on Monday announced a November reopening for Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, Miss.
Kelley, who purchased his hometown track in July, announced plans for the track’s traditional Jambalaya 100 on Nov. 21-22 highlighted by $3,000- and $7,000-to-win Super Late Model events at the 33-year-old 3/8-mile oval in southern Mississippi.
“When I was a kid I could stand outside on my back porch and hear the cars,” Kelley said on a recent YouTube video, “I spent a lot of nights out here, it’s my childhood to dream to own it and now I do.”
Kelley has high hopes for the future of Pike County Speedway, which opened in 1992, was closed from 2012-19 and hasn’t run a full season since 2022, operating sporadically the last few years.
“We plan to make (this facility) badass. We not only want to race dirt cars here, we want to make it fun for families and a place where kids to go have fun, like I did,” he said, adding that he is “looking forward to making this place awesome again, how I remember it going out there as a kid.”
The track will also serve as a backdrop for his social media channels where he and his crew plan to film numerous racing-related events across multiple disciplines of motorsports.
“We’re gonna do a lot of YouTube content here. Whatever we do here is not illegal,” Kelley said, adding the track “is going to be huge for our content and program all together and we plan to make this place a great asset to our community also.”
Next month's Jambalaya 100 weekend will open with Nov. 20 practice. Along with Super Late Models, several other divisions will be part of the weekend action, including Crate Late Models.
