Aikey, Osborn among Iowa inductees

Brad Hines

Four Dirt Late Model standouts, including seven-time Deery Brothers Summer Series champion Jeff Aikey of Cedar Falls, are among the seventh class for the Iowa Hall of Fame and Racing Museum.

Aikey, still in Late Model races at age 62, was the Deery Brother tour’s all-time winningest driver and captured many events in Iowa and beyond, including three Yankee Dirt Track Classic victories.

Joining Aikey is Bob Dominacki (pictured) of Blue Grass, the late Denny Osborn of Cedar Falls and Bob Weber of Burt.

Dominacki was successful in Late Models and modifieds with at least one victory in 22 seasons and four track championships. Osborn was the 1989 IMCA Late Model champion and multitime track champion over a 30-year career. Weber was a longtime modified standout but early in his career was a Late Model star in the 1970s and early ‘80s with success in Iowa, North Dakota, Missouri and Minnesota, where he won a track championship at Fairmont Raceway.

Other inductees are longtime racing photographer Bruce Badgley of Mingo; powerboat racer Billy Allen; late racer and promoter George Barton; Scott Braun of Performance Bodies & Parts; Steve Davis; late official Ron Efkamp; drag racer Roger Lechtenberg; former NASCAR driver Shawna Robinson; former racer Mike Schulte; and motorcycle racer John Tibben.

Induction ceremonies are 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Briggs Woods Conference Center in Webster City ($35 advance tickets required at iowaracingmuseum.com or by calling 515-835-2620).

The museum recently opened a new building at the Kossuth County Ag & Motorsports Museum in Algona, offering race fans a look at Iowa's racing memorabilia and historical archives. The museum is open on weekends and by appointment for group tours.
