Voigt, wife hurt in Key West wreck

Dirt Late Model veteran Mark Voigt (pictured) and his wife, Kristi, were hospitalized Thursday after suffering multiple injuries in a golf cart accident while vacationing in the Florida Keys.

The couple was sightseeing while staying in Key West, Fla., when their golf cart was struck in the passenger side by another vehicle moving at high speed. They were both ejected and rushed to separate hospitals for treatment — Mark transported by ambulance to Key West Hospital and Kristi taken by helicopter to Miami.

While Mark, 64, sustained an array of bruises and abrasions and a back injury, his wife was hurt more seriously with her injuries including two broken ribs, three broken pelvic bones and fractures in her neck, lumbar region and face along with many bruises and abrasions. Mark was allowed to sign himself out of the hospital in Key West on Thursday night and drove to Miami to be by his wife’s side.

Kristi is scheduled to undergo a pair of surgeries, including one on her pelvic bone, on Wednesday and start physical therapy the following day but the timeline for her release to return home remains uncertain. Mark told DirtonDirt he’s “feeling better every day” but will have to wear a back brace for the next eight weeks.

In a post on her Facebook page, Kristi wrote that they “are thankful to be alive” after the accident and thanked friends and the racing community for the well wishes they’ve received.

Voigt is a longtime stalwart of the St. Louis-area Dirt Late Model scene. He finished 11th in the 2025 MARS Championship Series points standings and made his last start of the season on Nov. 8 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., finishing 19th in the 40-lap feature and then leaving for his vacation the following day.

While Voigt said he wasn’t going to compete in Dec. 4-6’s Gateway Dirt Classic indoor race in St. Louis, he has plans to travel to Arizona in January to assist young Louisiana racer Clay Stuckey during the Wild West Shootout. He added that he plans to be back behind the wheel in the spring when the 2026 MARS season kicks off.
