Former I-55 track co-owner dies at 87
Ray Marler, who for 29 years owned and promoted I-55 Federated Raceway Park in Pevely, Mo., died this morning. The 87-year-old’s death was announced by Ken Schrader, his longtime track co-owner.
“Is with very sad hearts that we are reporting Ray Marler our former partner at Pevely passed away this morning. We wish Sue and the family prayers and peace,” Ken Schrader Racing Inc. posted on Facebook.
The high-banked track, purchased last fall by Josh Carroll, has anchored St. Louis, Mo.-area racing as a fixture on the DIRTcar Summer Nationals among other sprint car and Late Model specials.
In selling the track last year, Marler called operating the track as “living a dream we never thought possible. It’s been an incredible journey, full of highs and lows, twists and turns, and yes, a few bumps along the way. But what an unforgettable ride it’s been. The friendships we’ve forged and the memories we’ve made will stay with us forever.”
Arrangements weren’t immediately available.
