Reopening Modoc oval to retain name
The long-awaited reopening of the completely overhauled Modoc, S.C., dirt track is set for March with the 4/10-mile oval planning to run monthly in 2026, the track announced Monday.
The 41-year-old facility has been dark since Ronnie Powell’s purchase four years ago when he planned to rename it Little River Speedway. It will retain its Modoc Speedway moniker when it returns for a March 7 practice and reopens March 20 for a Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series event paying $10,053-to-win.
The 2026 schedule and season details for the Kelley Carlton-promoted track will be announced later with plans for divisions similar to area tracks. Kart racing on a smaller infield oval is also planned.
Powell, involved in racing nearly 40 years, owns R.W. Powell Construction and has sponsored drivers including Brandon Overton. Powell purchased the track from Jimmy and Ann Cushman, who owned it for nine years.
