MLRA sets 17 races among 10 tracks
The newly revived Midwest LateModel Racing Association today announced a 17-race schedule for 2026 with plans for four races apiece at Springfield (Mo.) Raceway and Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., and two first-time series tracks. | Schedule
Ten tracks in four states are on the Missouri-based tour's slate including first-time venues Macon (Ill.) Speedway and Farmington (Mo.) Empire Speedway. The Ernie Leftwich-owned series also plans its first visit to Springfield since 2012 and first to I-55 Federated Raceway Park in Pevely, Mo., since 1991 under the tour founders Ken Essary and Randy Mooneyham.
MLRA’s most lucrative events pay $20,000 on April 11 at Lucas Oil Speedway, the second half of the Spring Nationals doubleheader weekend, and Oct. 23-24 of the Liberty 100 at West Liberty (Iowa) Raceway, which last hosted the circuit in 2020.
Leftwich, who purchased the series from the Lucas Oil Racing organization that shut it down following the 2024 season, hopes to schedule up to 24 events, but plans with some tracks with newer promoters didn’t pan out and the tour’s one-season hiatus was a hurdle.
“We’re gonna do our best with what we have and hopefully grow on it in years to come,” Leftwich told DirtonDirt.
Salina (Okla.) Highbanks Speedway, set for June 19-20 events, is the lone track with multiple races besides Springfield Raceway and Lucas Oil Speedway (West Liberty’s race is a two-day event). Single races are set for Farmington, Macon, Quincy (Ill.) Raceway, Davenport (Iowa) Speedway and 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa.
MLRA's season opens with the March 13-14 weekend at Springfield and concludes at I-55 Raceway on Nov. 7. All but five events are in the first half of the season and no races are scheduled for July or August. The lone TBA on the schedule is May 1.
