Kentucky tracks join for Speedweek
Five Bluegrass State tracks have come together to schedule a five-race Kentucky Speedweek on June 9-13 highlighted by $5,000-to-win Super Late Model events.
The opener is set for Corbin’s Thunder Mountain Speedway followed by events at Junction City’s Ponderosa Speedway, Mount Vernon’s Rockcastle Speedway, Richmond Raceway and Burnside’s Lake Cumberland Speedway.
Officially announced today, the Tuesday-Saturday events will pay out more than $175,000 in purse for the six-division programs with the Super Late Model features offering at least $500 to every starter.
The Crate Late Model division will pay $1,500-to-win along with modifieds ($1,500-to-win), hobby stocks, Crown Vics and front-wheel drive ($500-to-win apiece.)
"I'm looking forward to all of the tracks working together for this inaugural Kentucky Speedweek,” Richmond Raceway owner Bill Lupinos told DirtonDirt. “Hopefully it will be a great success and lead to many more.”
Details were worked out among promoters Sunday at Cattleman’s Roadhouse in Danville, Ky., with Lupinos, Lake Cumberland’s Brandon Hargrove, new Rockcastle owner Matthew Norman, Thunder Mountain’s Dennis and Lori Barton and Ponderosa’s Jamie Stumph taking part.
Each Speedweek division will have a points fund with a Super Late Model champion receiving $5,000 from the total payout of $10,000. The points fund will pay back five positions and be adjusted in case of rainouts.
The unsanctioned Super Late Model division will follow Unified Late Model body rules with the tire rule to be announced. The format includes time trials, heat races, consolation races and 30-lap main events.
