HTF tour delays start of points chase
Citing driver concerns about cold weather, the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series has elected to run the four-race South Georgia Showdown without awarding championship points, the series announced today.
The tour originally planned on awarding drivers the points total from their best night for events Friday and Saturday at Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, Ga., and Feb. 2-3 at Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway. With the change, March 22’s event at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala., will tentatively serve as the points opener. At Talladega, the series will award a paid provisional starting spot to the series regular with the best South Georgia Showdown performance who doesn’t qualify for the feature lineup.
HTF officials also announced that Friday’s Needmore action is on as scheduled with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. Facing chilly forecasts, Saturday’s race has been moved to the afternoon instead of evening with hot laps at 1 p.m. A Thursday practice is set for 6-9:30 p.m.
The series plans to host events if there’s a reasonable window to complete the program at temperatures of 40 degrees or higher.
