Lucas regular earns Truck Series start
Dirt Late Model driver Carson Ferguson of Lincolnton, N.C., will make his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut later this year for Kaulig Racing, earning a one-race opportunity Oct. 30 at Martinsville Speedway through Ram’s Race for the Seat reality-show competition.
Ferguson entered the competition’s finale leading by one point over eventual winner Mini Tyrrell, who secured the program’s full-time Truck Series ride with Kaulig Racing, before finishing second in the final point standings. The 25-year-old earned the one-off Martinsville start by capturing the competition’s 20-lap, $50,000-to-win pavement Late Model event at South Boston (Va.) Speedway.
“What an awesome experience! $50k and a Martinsville truck ride with Kaulig Trucks! Are you kidding me?!?!” Ferguson wrote in a Facebook post Friday night when the show’s final episode that evening revealed the results. “Thank you to Ram Trucks, Kaulig Racing, Matt Kaulig, Chris Rice, Ty Norris and all the people behind the scenes that made this show happen. It was an honor to be chosen to compete!”
Ferguson’s Truck Series debut won’t interfere with his Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series commitments with Paylor Motorsports, as the national tour campaign concludes Oct. 17 at West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, W.Va.
“We are all geared up and shifting our focus to contend for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championship with Paylor Motorsports this season!” Ferguson added. “Thank you to my amazing car owners Donald and Gena Bradsher for believing in me! GOD is good!”
The Ram-backed initiative featured 15 grassroots racers competing in a series of challenges designed to identify emerging talent for Kaulig’s first-year NASCAR Truck program. The competition was part of an eight-episode reality series produced by FOX in partnership with Dana White and Thrill Sports Productions, with every episode available on demand via the RAM: Race for the Seat YouTube channel.
