Vineyard among Hall of Fame selections

DirtonDirt

Marty Calloway, Keith Longmire, Mark Vineyard (pictured) and David Wagner make up the Class of 2026 for the newly renamed East Tennessee Racing Hall of Fame. They’ll be inducted during the Aug. 22 racing program at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn.

The Hall of Fame continues the tradition that started at the now-closed Atomic Speedway in 1975 and has lived on at Smoky Mountain Speedway. The name change is to preserve the history of racing in East Tennessee with clarity lacking over the last 20-plus years. This year’s class:

Marty Calloway: He competed for many car owners and won with nearly all of them, epitomizing the working man’s racer by beating drivers with newer equipment that led to many wins and track championships. He's currently on Tazewell Speedway's track crew.

Keith Longmire: Long associated with Wartburg Speedway as a competitor, promoter and track worker, his success started running in the NASCAR Goody’s Dash series and then moved to the dirt tracks of East Tennessee where he accumulated many wins and track championships.

Mark Vineyard: Following the tire tracks of his uncle, H.E. Vineyard, to carve out his own name in dirt racing, Vineyard tallied track championships at Smoky Mountain and Atomic. He finished second in NASCAR Weekly Racing Series regional points and was a two-time runner up in the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series.

David Wagner: Getting starting in racing his father Vic Wagner, David got behind the wheel himself and later built one of the first chassis jigs in the Knoxville area. He built race- and championship-winning cars for H.E. Vineyard in the early 1980s. After a stint in All-Pro Series and the Busch Series, Wagner was one of the earliest employees at Joe Gibbs Racing where he built cars and was a chassis specialist until he retired in 2012.

Correction: Fixes H.E. Vineyard's relationship to Mark Vineyard as uncle, not grandfather.
